Private Tour - Jewish Life in Berlin Convertir en PDF Version imprimable Suggérer par mail

The Jewish history of Berlin is tied intricately into the entire history of the city. This tour takes us from the days when Berlin was a place of solace and tolerance for a people persecuted throughout Europe, through the nightmare of Berlin as the epicenter of the planning and organization of the Holocaust, to the current rebuilding of the Jewish Community.

We discover the surviving elements of Berlin's 17th Century Jewish Quarter - home today of a newly-emerging Jewish community nestled amongst the new galleries, offices, bars, shops and restaurants of today's Scheunenviertal, or 'barn district'.

Visit the site of the 1943 women's protest against Nazi deportations that freed Jewish husbands.  Explore the house and secret room where Otto Weidt hid his Jewish workers.*  Learn of the many fascinating stories of Jewish Berliners - where Einstein played the violin, where Moses Mendelssohn is buried.

Learn of their contribution to Berlin and the world, as we survey the golden dome of the central synagogue (Neue Synagogue), pause at the newly-reopened Jewish Boys School by the old Jewish graveyard, and contemplate the many memorials to the Jewish Berliners' tragic fate during the Nazi period.

Of course, no tour of Jewish Berlin would be complete without a visit to the new Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe - the Holocaust Memorial of Berlin.  We end the tour here with a visit to the information center underneath the memorial itself.

* As a service to our private tour customers, we pre-arrange your visit to the Otto Weidt Haus so that you do not have to wait in line.

THIS TOUR CAN BE OFFERED AS A WALKING, BIKE, OR PRIVATE VEHICHLE TOUR.

This general overview outlines some of the highlights of this 3 hour historical tour of Berlin's Jewish Life.
