Soviet Memorial - Berlin

One of several Soviet War Memorials in Berlin, the two T-34 tanks were allegedly the first two to enter the city. Some 2500 Russian soldiers are buried here in mass graves, covered by grassy lawns. Being in the British sector of West Berlin, it was built in November 1945 and acted as a reminder of just exactly who defeated the Nazis.

East Berlin women used to call this the Memorial to the Unknown Rapist despite the Russian Army’s refusal of the extent of the crimes committed.
