Stolpersteine - Berlin

There are 1000s of the brass plaque ‘stumble stones’ all over Germany. Engraved with the names, dates of birth and date of victims of the Nazis.

It is not an official memorial but the project of a German artist called Gunter Demnig. Individual cities have allowed or not allowed, (such as Munich) the stones to be placed.

The first stones were placed illegally in Cologne in 1995 and then in Berlin. By now there are over 1600 stones in Berlin and over 13,000 across Europe.
